The Carlsbad chiropractor demonstrates gentle L5 adjustment on pelvic bench with Gonstead chiropractic in San Diego. Adjustment removes interference to the nervous system allowing fullest expression of life.
A subluxation is a condition where a spinal bone shifts out of position and interferes with the integrity of the nervous system. Since the nervous system controls all function, a subluxation has a negative effect on the entire body and brain.
The atlas is the first bone in the neck directly underneath the skull and the closest spinal bone ot the brainstem. This location makes this vertebra particularly vulnerable to interference to the nervous system. Many symptoms of a malfunctioning body and brain have been demonstrated by this subluxation in the past including brain fog, depression, ear, nose, throat issues like allergies, ringing in the ears, immune issues, symptoms mimicking autism, and even low back pain.
This is a Gonstead chiropractic adjustment used to reduce nerve interference to the body and brain, allowing normal function to take place. Are you experiencing these symptoms and have found no relief? Maybe you have subluxation. Call your San Diego Gonstead chiropractor in Carlsbad today.

Once you have the patient neutral, place the pad of the thumb on the TP of the atlas. The hand opposite the contact hand is used to guide and stabilize the head while simultaneously taking out the slack with the contact thumb. The slack comes out entirely at the contact point. Not by bending or turning the neck.
As Dr. Gohl used to say, it’s impossible to touch the bone. You’re feeling thru muscle, fat, ligaments, etc. You push the bone until you feel it stop moving as the head laterally flexes over your hand. There is not that much slack in the atlas. If your contact is too hard, it will be too painful for the patient to relax. Not the look on the patients face throughout the adjustment.
As far as position the head, imagine if you could just use the contact hand only. And the head would kind of flop over your contact hand. That’s about all the slack you need. The stabilization hand then just holds the head in position.
The thrust is so minimal and insignificant that there is minimal movement in the patient with the thrust. This is because the slack is out and it doesn’t take much force to set the vertebra.
There are some patients that are more challenging to take out the slack, but this will work with 85% of them. Once you understand those 85%, the others will come more easily.
