Patient presented with neck pain and headaches after an auto accident.
When a person is hit from behind (1 minute whiplash animation), the initial force causes extreme extension followed by extreme flexion. This damages the disc, creates inflammation on the nerves, and can create the typical whiplash symptoms including neck/shoulder pain, radiating neck/shoulder pain, headaches, and various other neurologic symptoms like numbness, dizziness, impaired vision, etc.
The force is often enough to cause a subluxation, where the vertebrae shifts backwards, damages and herniates the disc, puts pressure on the nerves, and can create interference along those nerves. This is associated with abnormal body function including pain and other neurological symptoms. The treatment to this condition, called subluxation, is an adjustment. Here is a typical adjustment to the lower cervical after such an injury.
This adjustment over time can replace the bone into a more normal alignment, allowing the disc to heal up and the interference to the system to be reduced. Once corrected the person can gain back their health. Don’t wait for years before getting help and call us today to schedule a consultation with your San Diego Gonstead Chiropractor in Carlsbad.
