On February 9th, 2024, a patient arrived at our office in acute pain and exhibiting a pronounced antalgic lean. Accompanied and supported by his caring spouse, the patient had a mere four days to achieve a remarkable recovery before embarking on an extensive 18-hour flight back to China.
The Delta-T is a temperature differential instrument. It measures heat, which accompanies inflammation. In treating patients, Dr. Gonstead looked for the “thermo-electric block” which showed the exact location of the nerve pressure. This instrument scans the spine and the Gonstead chiropractor looks for the a sharp inflection point called the “break.” Once a Gonstead chiropractic adjustment is given, this reading should lower, or return to zero.
This case was exceptional as it deviated from the conventional textbook scenarios. In your typical textbook case, the instrument would measure and move the needle to its appropriate reading. This would then allow the Gonstead Chiropractor to confirm the findings and preform a specific and gentle Gonstead Chiropractic Adjustment.
Despite very clear motion restriction, inflammation, and x-ray evidence, there was no break at L5/S1. The only reading the Delta-T instrument picked up was at the atlas, C1. The major subluxation in this case was the atlas. With unlimited time, Dr. Kametz would have only adjusted C1. However, due to severe time constraints, Dr. Kametz also adjusted a rotated sacrum on day 1.
